We're not playing hide and seek with anybody - George Lawson

A Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Lawson has stated categorically that the party is not afraid to put its manifesto in the public domain.

Political parties have received backlash for refusing to present their manifestoes or policy interventions to electorate few months into the general elections.

Political parties have accused each other of manifesto stealing in the past.

NDC supporters during media discourses and campaign tours are mostly seen and heard chanting words such as ‘Edey bi keke, changing lives and transforming, JM Toaso’.

But speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he explained that the words they chant are their slogans and cannot be their campaign message.

He lashed out at supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for not being ‘discerning enough’ to differentiate between a slogan and a message.

The Deputy General Secretary of NDC urged people not to be deceived by the NPP members who are propagating this agenda.

‘No, no we are not playing hide and seek, hide and seek for what, with whom, we are in government, H.E the President has been given a four–year term to rule the country and that is what we are doing, its only NPP members who are not discerning to differentiate between a slogan and a message, how can ‘edey bi keke’ be our message,’ he asked.

Mr. Lawson assured that their manifesto will be launched very soon.

He urged the electorate to keep their fingers crossed for their message which is yet to be unveiled that will change lives.

‘When we come out with our manifesto, you will see our message, we will launch it very very soon, we were supposed to launch it but due to certain unforeseen circumstances, that is why we had to postpone it. But we will launch our campaign and our manifesto. We were supposed to launch the Manifesto in Sunyani and Campaign in Cape Coast that will come on. We have finished with everything and there is no turning back we are not moving forward, when it’s unveiled, we will take it from there,’ he explained.

He described the NPP’s policy idea of one district one factory as not feasible, saying it has never happened in any country before.

‘What government does is to create an enabling environment for private sector, have you seen that in America, even South Africa which is the most industrialised country in Africa, have you seen factories in all districts, it’s something that is unrealistic, unattainable, if its regional basis fine but not all districts,’ he asserted.
