We support calls for debate-constituency executives

Tarkwa, (W/R), June 9, GNA - Some constituency executives and polling station chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central and Western Regions, have endorsed the call for a debate among those who have declared their intension to contest the party's flag-bearership. This according to them would enable the delegates make an informed choice during the party's primaries later in the year. They have therefore appealed to the national executive committee of the party to adopt the suggestion made by Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, one of the aspiring candidates.

This would enable them to choose the most efficient amongst them to lead the party to win the 2008 general elections.

The delegates made the appeal at separate interaction with Mr Osafo Maafo during a tour of the Central and Western Regions recently. Mr Osafo Maafo toured Cape Coast, Takoradi, Tarkwa and Agona Swedru, where he interacted with the constituency executives and polling station chairmen who came from adjourning constituencies and was briefed on his vision and strategies for the party and the country during the 2008 elections.

The delegates expressed the need for the party to choose a candidate who would be able to win the elections for the party and consolidate on the achievements of president Kufuor. Mr Osafo Maafo enumerated a number of achievements he chalked during his tenure as Finance and Economic Planning Minister as well as Education, Science and Sports. He said inflation dropped significantly while the national foreign reserve also went up considerably during his tenure as the finance Minister.

Mr Osafo Maafo said through sound policies, interest rate also dropped significantly and the private sector was booming.

He said he had the competency and capability to lead the party to victory in 2008 and urged the delegates to endorse his candidature to enable him complete some of the policies initiated under president Kufuor.
