Nana Akomea, Managing Director of Intercity State Transport Company (STC) Coaches, has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as 'insulting' comments directed at Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on November 1, 2024, he expressed surprise at Mahama’s willingness to denigrate a political opponent for simply disagreeing with him.
He questioned Mahama’s judgment, asking how someone who has served as Vice President for nearly eight years could be described as inferior.
"There is a part of John Mahama denigrating his opponent, people who do not agree with him, I do not understand his pronoucements. How do you describe a contestant for the presidency who has been Vice President for nearly eight years? How do you describe him as below you?
"What? What level are you? It is that character that pushes him to tell Ghanaians they are not fit to criticise him because they have never been president," he noted.
He also referred to Mahama’s past derogatory comments, including referring to former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu as “stupid” during discussions surrounding the Airbus scandal.
"He described him as stupid. Recently, he said people are writing stupid things on social media. What kind of character is this? Someone who wants to lead people? What kind of character is this?
"Can Bawumia say that Ghanaians cannot criticise him because they have not been Vice President before? Has Bawumia told anybody stupid?" he quizzed.
Recently, Mahama criticised Bawumia's economic focus using the phrase, “It’s about the economy, stupid,” a nod to former U.S. President Bill Clinton's campaign slogan from 1992.
In response, Dr. Mahamudu stated that Mahama’s use of “insults” will not prevent his defeat in the pending election.
