A member of the New Patriotic Party legal team, Kingsley Amoakwa-Boadu, has accused the National Democratic Congress of witch-hunting former government appointees from the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

According to him, the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative established by President John Dramani Mahama appears to be focused on targeting only former Akufo-Addo appointees, reinforcing his belief in a deliberate witch-hunt.

Speaking as a guest panelist on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, January 17, 2025, Amoakwa-Boadu questioned the morality of the ORAL committee members in their efforts to prosecute NPP appointees, highlighting how officials from previous governments, including the NDC, accused of corruption are not being similarly targeted.

“… I like how they said the previous government’s public officers had looted and therefore he set this up. We have said all over that this was set up as a witch-hunting activity. I read a newspaper where Prime Minister Busia talked about corruption.

“In Nkrumah’s time, there was corruption and you have only limited it to the public officers of the previous government. Is it not witch-hunting? Are they the only persons who have a penchant for engaging in corruption?,” he queried.

Amoakwa-Boadu, also a communicator for the NPP, described the establishment of the ORAL committee as a knee-jerk reaction from the NDC, prompted by the pressure from Ghanaians due to the promises they made to the public.

Expressing his strong disapproval of ORAL, he pointed out how the initiative was quickly implemented without any proper legal framework to support its establishment.

“The NDC’s problem is they promised the people so much and built a picture of public looting and so they must be seen to be doing something. When you have pressure at your back, you can’t even wait for when you have the requisite authority and so the president rushed in setting up this,” he added.

Amoakwa-Boadu is the latest New Patriotic Party personality to voice his strong opposition of ORAL.

The NPP Minority Caucus earlier called on former government appointees to boycott any invitations from the ORAL committee.
