Woman to contest Agona West NPP primaries

Agona Nyakrom,(C/R), Nov 14, GNA - Mrs Cynthia Morrison, Director of Maryland Montessori International School at Agona Swedru has declared her intention to contest the impending parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency. She made the declaration when she interacted with some polling station executives of the party at separate meetings at Agona Nyakrom and Agona Swedru.

Mrs Morrison, accompanied by her husband, Mr Herbert Morrison, also paid a courtesy call on Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area and Nana Kobina Atta, Abusuapanyin of the Traditional Area. At the meeting, the aspiring candidate outlined her vision and strategic plans, which include the infrastructural development of the constituency.

Mrs Morrison expressed the hope that being the first woman to contest the position in the area would make the women in the area support her to push her agenda to improve the lot of the people. She said education, sanitation and health would be her top priorities, adding that, the education standard in Agona had gone down considerable as compared to previous years. She expressed regret that some children roam the streets and markets to carry head loads for traders and travellers in the municipality to the detriment of their education. Mrs Morrison declared that the constituents have every cause to complain and demand accountability from an MP who fails to spearhead developmental projects to raise their living standards. The aspirant said if the past MPs had assisted to improve education, health, sanitation, roads, water and other social amenities in the constituency, the living conditions in the area would have improved. She said Ghanaians had suffered under the two years rule of the National Democratic Congress, therefore, the NPP must takeover the administration of the country in the 2012 general elections.

Meanwhile, Mrs Morrison has presented 18 bags of rice, two bags of sugar, two big gallons of cooking oil and three boxes of tomatoes valued at GHC2,500 to the flood victims at Agona Swedru to alleviate their suffering. Nana Ogidigram Odiowusiew Aseidu Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene, who received the items, thanked Mrs Morrison for her kind gesture.
