Awutu-Bawjiase(C/R), Sept. 3, GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, has stated that the active female participation in the District Assembly will accelerate the socio-economic development of rural communities.
He stressed the need for the electorates to vote more women in the forthcoming local level elections on September 12.
Mr. Abbam-Quaye was speaking at a durbar organized by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), to educate female contestants of the Elections on the 93dos and don'ts=94 during electioneering campaigns at Awutu-Bawjiase, at the weekend.
The DCE noted that the participation of enough knowledgeable, committed and dedicated females in the District Assembly would ensure socio-economic transformation.
He stated that a retired female educationist and a member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, who was appointed to head a number of important development committees had performed creditably towards the implementation of crucial government policies and programmes, including the School Feeding Project (SFP).
"This is a clear manifestation that if we give women, especially those who have the requisite knowledge, ability and capabilities to transform situations which men considered to be difficult, they could do wonders", the DCE added.
Mr. Abbam-Quaye had earlier taken the gathering through procedures for the creation of a district, municipal or metropolitan assembly. In a brief speech, Mrs Augustina Akosua Akomanyi, Deputy National Chairman of the NCCE, charged female district assembly aspirants to be more courageous and dynamic in their campaign.
They should also develop a strong faith in God and pray to come out victorious after the September 12 elections.
Mrs. Akomanyi advised them not to forget that the positions they were clamouring for entailed greater responsibilities and accountability.
Aspiring female candidates who would be fortunate to win their seats must be adequately prepared to prove equal to the task. Mr Kwesi Esseku, Presiding Member of the Assembly, cautioned people to desist from destroying posters, of candidates since it could land those caught in jail.
He counselled contestants, particularly the females, to strive to develop what he described as 93the biggest heart and patience" to be successful as Assembly Members.
