The Okuapehene, Oseadeayo Kwasi Akuffo III, had nothing but praise for the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), when the latter called on the former in Akropong on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

The Okuapehene said that NAPO’s excellent work when he was the Minister for Education and later as Minister for Energy has been pivotal to the stellar performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

He added that he has complete faith in the NPP vice-presidential candidate’s ability to complete the assignments assigned to him by the flagbearer of the party, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“I have known you to be a very honest man and so for me, I have no doubt that you will execute the task Bawumia has given you seamlessly.

“The NPP has been exceptional in government and I believe that your performance at the Education and Energy Ministries has contributed significantly to this cause. I know you can do more in a higher capacity and so we continue to pray for you,” he said.

In his remarks, the NPP vice-presidential candidate reiterated the need for enhanced cordial relations among Ghanaian ethnic groups, which he indicated forms the foundation for progress and development in the country.

He said that the NPP, which is ruling Ghana today, was formed by people from various ethnic groups.

“The UP tradition, front runner for the present-day New Patriotic Party, was not the endeavour of a single ethnic group but a collective effort of Ghanaians from various backgrounds and so we are always reminded of the foundational principles of inclusivity and unity,” he said.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also underscored the flagbearer’s track record in spearheading initiatives such as digitization, economic reforms, and infrastructure development, which he believes are crucial for the country’s growth.

Dr. Prempeh later appealed to Okuapeman to vote massively for the NPP, canvassing for the parliamentary candidates of Akuapem North, Akuapem South, and Okere.

The move by the NPP running mate signals the party’s approach to mobilizing support from traditional authorities ahead of the 2024 election.

Throughout Ghana’s political history, the role of traditional leaders in influencing voter sentiment remains pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.
