A constituent in the Gomoa Central Region, Asiedu Nketia, believes that musician-turned-politician and independent Parliamentary candidate for the area, Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, is wasting resources in his attempt to win the parliamentary seat.
According to the resident, the controversial politician is only active on social media and is conspicuously absent on the ground in the constituency.
"I want both listeners and viewers to know that if you go on social media, Kwame A Plus is very visible. But when you come to the Gomoa Central constituency, he's not visible on the ground. His presence can't be felt. We don't need him here in the constituency.
"This programme you've organised for the candidates—he was supposed to be here to share his vision and programmes with us, the constituency. But you see, he's absent? We only have the NDC and NPP candidates present. We want all Ghanaians, especially sponsors of A Plus, to know that he's deceiving them. He's not part of the contest here in Gomoa Central. The contest is between the NDC and NPP candidates," Asiedu Nketia said during a constituency watch programme held in the constituency by Atinka TV.
A Plus announced his intention to run for the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate on September 25, 2023, during the burial service of his father, Daniel Kwasi Obeng, in Winneba.
In his announcement, A Plus expressed confidence in his ability to win the seat and become the only independent candidate in Ghana's Parliament by 2025.
A Plus launched his campaign on August 5, 2024, in the township of Gomoa Ekwamkrom, attracting a sizable crowd of supporters.
The former Hip-Life artist, once a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been a vocal critic of the current administration and has occasionally expressed disappointment in its governance.
He hopes to unseat Naana Eyiah Quansah, the incumbent MP, who is running under the ticket of the NPP.
