A wing of the ruling National Democratic Congress, the Young Democrats, has asked the Member of Parliament for the Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong, to apologize to the NDC and the government for alleging that a former security boss at the airport arrested for dealing in cocaine is a financier of the party.
The group charged Mr Agyepong to shun “such a preposterous behavior and should endeavor to remain a responsible Member of Parliament”.
“It is clear that his allegations are without merit and clearly orchestrated to divert attention on the internal wrangling in the NPP, and also to give the NDC and the government a bad name. Ghanaians have not forgotten the challenge of drug trade that infested this country when the UK government was compelled to intervene between 2001 and 2008.”

KENNEDY AGYEPONG’S ALLEGATION AGAINST THE NDC IS UNTRUE AND WITHOUT MERIT
Young Democrats wish to express its utmost disgust about the Member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency allegation on “Okay FM” that the busted drug dealer Solomon Adelaquaye is a National Democratic Congress financier and suggested that founding members of the NDC should undertake a rebranding to name the party “Narcotic’s Dealers Congress”.
We in deed received the news with regret that a Member of Parliament will continue to sink his image and that of his constituency to such an abyss. It is clear that his allegations are without merit and clearly orchestrated to divert attention on the internal wrangling in the NPP and also to give the NDC and the government a bad name. Ghanaians have not forgotten the challenge of drug trade that infested this country when the UK government was compelled to intervene between 2001 and 2008.
This allegation cannot be true and lacks merit given government’s commitment to fight the drug menace and the confidence that Ghanaian continue to show in the President’s leadership in the security of this country. It is important to establish that the busted dealer has no link whatsoever with the NDC and has never donated money to the party.
Young Democrats is of the view that government should rather be commended by its continuous efforts in making Ghana a narcotics free country in its efforts since 2009, due to the danger that drug facilitators pose to a direct threat to the safety and security of innocent Ghanaians. Indeed the US government has even commended the government of Ghana for their collaboration in arresting Mr. Adelaquaye.
We found that the MP’s recent utterances poses a security threat to this nation and if he is not curtailed, the country can be plunged into some danger since this has the tendency of perpetuating the coloration of every activity into partisan political lines which is not helping the country in its developmental agenda.
We recalled this same Kennedy Agyepong vehemently denied allegations against him that he was heavily involved in a deadly cocaine business.
In his characteristic radio rants, the MP some time back also alleged that the owner of Multi Media Group owner Mr. Kwesi Tsum is into illegal drug business. The MP was compelled after threat of taking him to court to proof his allegation to withdraw his allegation and unconditionally apologized to him. It is this same person who called on one tribe to maim and kill other tribes that received heavy condemnation during the 2012 December elections. How can we take such divisive tendency person who lacks any iota of integrity serious? His allegation should be treated with contempt.
The leadership of Young Democrat urge the Hon. Member of parliament not to attempt to divert attention on the election defeat pressure that confronts them (NPP) and the condemnation from Dr. Wereko-Brobbey and Dr. Author Kennedy that the NPP’s credentials on Rule of Law and Democracy is questionable. And it will serve his image good if he honorably apologize to the NDC and the government for such preposterous behavior and should endeavor to remain a responsible Member of Parliament.
We applaud government efforts in the campaign against drug trafficking and urge them to keep focus in building a united nation for a Better Ghana.
