Past leaders of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on the country’s youth to be wary of politicians who may incite them to violence ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on the election petition.
According to TEIN’s former executives, who refer to themselves as AFTES (Association of Former TEIN Executives), the ambitions and aspirations of the Ghanaian youth may be curtailed if the peace and stability in the country is disrupted.
They were speaking with TV3’s Pardikie Parditey in an interview on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
“We are calling on the youth to kick against any selfish politician [who advises them] to use their youthful exuberance to cause mayhem in their locality after the Supreme Court verdict because our aspirations and ambitions would survive only if peace prevails in the country,” said George Dadzie Jnr, President of AFTES.
General Secretary of AFTES Bilal Muaza Suleman argued that no politician will allow his/her ward or spouse to engage in any form of mayhem.
“It is the innocent ones that don’t have anywhere to run to that are being used,” he noted.
The Women’s Organiser, Latifa Baba, agreed with her colleagues, appealing to them “to say ‘No’ to violence”.
The court is expected to deliver judgement on the petition on Thursday, August 29.
