Youth for Action cancels demo against NDC in Volta Region

Ho, Oct. 5, GNA- Street protests under the auspices of the Volta Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth for Action, planned to rock Ho and other constituency headquarters’ simultaneously has been cancelled.

The Patron of the Group, Patron George Sika told journalists at a press conference in Ho on Tuesday that the march billed for last Monday October 3 was called off as a result of assurances from the office of the President that their grievances have attracted attention.

The demonstration was planned to shore-up demands of an earlier street march on August 3, this year demanding government to fulfil the campaign promises it made to the people of the region and also sack Mr Joseph Amenowode, Regional Minister and some other government appointees for alleged inaction.

That demonstration was dispersed by Police while the masterminds were arrested and sacked by the Party.

“We have had several assurances from the Presidency. We are fully convinced that most of the issues raised would soon be addressed by His Excellency President Mills,” Mr Sika stated.

Demands made during the ill-fated August 3, street action included the take off of the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the Eastern Corridor Road, political platform promises made to the people of the region in 2008 that brought the NDC to power.

Mr Sika said the “twist of events” was real.

He said the Group however remained resolute about kicking against selfishness, parochialism and “greed” of government appointees.

Mr Sika said the purported dismissal of leaders of the first demonstration were null and void and is being investigated by the Party at the highest level.

He said accusations of underhand dealings made against some political appointees were also being handled.

Mr Sika said the actions by the Group were in the interest of the NDC and the nation and that they had at no point in their agitations questioned the capability of President John Evans Atta Mills.
