Daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, who is contesting the ruling Party’s Klottey Korle seat in the Greater Accra Region, Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, is accusing her opponents of inducing voters with money ahead of the November 7 primaries.

At a mini rally put together by her camp in Accra on Sunday, the young medical doctor bemoaned what she says was the indiscriminate sharing of money to constituents ahead of the elections.

“People are sharing money. Why didn’t they make the money available to you, why now. So it means they had the money but decided they weren’t going to give you.

“We have to be empowered; and the power is yours, don’t let anybody deceive you. It is your right to choose.”

Zanetor on Sunday received an overwhelming endorsement from her father, Jerry John Rawlings, who officially declared his support for his daughter.

The former first gentleman of the land joined thousands of people for a march and fitness walk organized by his daughter’s campaign team to galvanize support ahead of the Party’s planned November 7 primaries.

Mr. Rawlings later mounted the platform of a mini rally to speak to issues surrounding the campaign, which has so far enjoyed enormous support from the constituents.

Zanetor is seeking to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Nii Armah Ashietey. Two others are also contesting.

Zanetor, a medical Doctor by profession, is following in the footsteps of her family, who ruled Ghana for more than two decades and oversaw the country’s first transition to a democratically elected president in 2001 when Rawlings made way for the opposition New Patriotic Party’s John Agyekum Kufuor.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Zanetor’s mother, has since left the NDC, citing corruption and cronyism.

Last week, she told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that, “it’s unfortunate my mum is with another party because she worked so hard in the NDC, and that cannot be taken away.”

The ultimate decision to have Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings return to the NDC again, she said, can be made by her alone.
