Zongo NDC Caucus congratulates Nii Tackie-Komme

Kumasi, Sept. 12, GNA - Ashanti Region Zongo caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the Party's victory in the Asawase and Odododiodio by-elections was a signal that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was heading for defeat in 2008 general election. The Caucus held that the two defeats showed that Ghanaians were fed-up with the policies of the NPP and thus would not vote for it in the next elections.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Osuman Yahya, Zongo NDC Chairman and his secretary, Alhaji Alhassan Ibn and released in Kumasi on Monday.

The statement the Odododiodio bye-election in particular has indicated that the NPP was getting unpopular every passing day because of their harsh policies.

The caucus commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the rank and file of the security services for ensuring that the bye-election was devoid of any violence.

"Had it not been for the security agencies, the bye-election would certainly have witnessed a chaotic situation", the statement noted. They commended the founder of the NDC, ex-president J.J. Rawlings and Professor Evans Atta-Mills, NDC presidential candidate in 2000, for the support they showed during the Asawase and Odododiodio bye-elections and appealed to them to extend the zeal to the campaign for the 2008 elections.
