Zongo communities in central region endorses Konadu

People of the Zongo communities of Asikuma, Odoben Brakwa in the Central region, on Tuesday appealed to delegates of the National Democratic Party (NDP) to endorse former First Lady and President of 31st December Women’s Movement, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to lead the party to win the 2012 general election.

A statement issued and signed jointly by Iddrisu Karim and Frederick Asane, District Secretary and Chairman respectively of the NDP, said Nana Konadu supported her husband as President to reduce poverty among women and did a lot to encourage women empowerment to improve their living standard.

“We the Muslim communities want to take this opportunity to educate all the Muslims and entire nation that our Holy Quran does not state any where categorically in any verse that women should not lead men in doing business, contest for political position, likewise the presidency as some Ghanaians are speculating,” it said.

The statement said politics was not about which family one belonged to, but about whether or not the leader was capable and could be productive and progressive with his/her nation at heart; alongside in-depth knowledge.

The 1992 Constitution says a Ghanaian who is mentally sound, 40 years and above, with no criminal record, a registered voter can contest election for the Presidency and or hold any other political position.

The statement noted that it was very essential to note that an aspirant could be the son, daughter and an ex-wife, ex-husband of a past President whether dead or alive.

“We are appealing to eligible voters to accept Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as the flag bearer for NDP to win the forthcoming 2012 elections,” the statement stressed.
