Apam (C/R), Aug. 16, GNA - Sixty-Seven units in the Gomoa District did not file nominations for contestants in the up-coming unit committee elections.

Out of a total of 160 units in the District, 93 file nominations for one or more candidates.

Mr Bertino Stephen, District Electoral Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that out of the 93, which filed candidates, 48 units had more than 10 people contesting, while 45 had 10 or fewer contestants.

Mr Stephen said the situation meant elections would be held in only 48 units since each unit was to be composed of 10 elected members and five government appointees making 15 members.

He said 146 people including 13 women had filed nominations to contest the district assembly elections in 53 electoral areas. Mr Stephens said 27 members of the current Assembly had filed nominations to seek re-election.

He said his outfit was preparing to mount platforms for the contestants to present their manifestoes to the electorate.
