Tamale, Nov. 15, GNA - The Northern Region secretariat of the Convention People's Party (CPP) would on Sunday, November 18, organise its Regional Delegates' Congress to choose new leaders to steer the affairs of the party towards winning election 2008. Positions to be contested for included, Regional Chairman and first and second vice chairmen, regional secretary and assistant, women's organiser and assistant, regional organiser and assistant and youth organiser and assistant. The rest are treasurer and education secretary.
Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional chairman of the party told the GNA in an interview in Tamale on Thursday that CPP was more vibrant in the region than ever and was poised to win the 2008 elections. He said the regional executive of the party had travelled to all the constituencies in the region to organise elections for executive positions and gave the assurance that with the commitment of the newly elected constituency executives, victory would not elude the CPP in 2008.
Mr. Atutiga claimed that Ghanaians were now opting for the CPP as the only alternative to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their failure to impress Ghanaians in good governance. "The way formidable people are now coming on board to seek leadership positions in the party including the flagbearership race is an attestation that there is something good in the party." He said.
Mr. Atutiga called on all party faithfuls to reach out for more souls to ensure that CPP came out victorious in 2008 to exert good governance to Ghanaians to improve their lifestyles and to end poverty. He said the NDC and the NPP had played their part saying, "Their roles in governance are not good enough to convince the electorate to vote them back to power" and expressed the hope that the party would win many Parliamentary seats big enough to enable them to form a government. Mr. Bob Saeed, a leading member of the party asked party members to help sustain the tempo before, during and after the Regional Delegates' Congresses as well as the National one to ensure that the party did not go disarray.
He advised delegates to elect competent, dedicated and resourceful persons to lead the party to victory but not people who would desert the party midstream.
In another development, Mr. George Opesika Agguddy, a Presidential aspirant of the party has sent 15 bicycles as the first consignment of 30 promised to facilitate party activities in the remote areas of the region.
Mr. Albert Atutiga who received them said the bicycles would be sent to the constituencies at the appropriate time to ensure that they were used to win more souls for the party. 15 Nov. 07
