Cape Coast, Feb. 29, GNA - The Coalition of the Central Regional Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday called on Mr Agyemang Kessie, former chairman of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Constituency, to rescind his decision to contest as an independent candidate and come back home to support the elected candidate.
Mr David Addotey, president of the UEW TESCON, who made the call at a press conference in Cape Coast, said TESCON found the recent verbal assaults as well as the threats issued on the KEEA parliamentary candidate, Nana Ato Arthur, by Mr Agyemang Kessie.
"If he wants to go independent all we can say is that he should conduct himself well and refrain from the politics of needless assault and threats which is not healthy for the consolidation of the nation's democracy".
He said it was unfortunate that Mr Agyemang Kessie, a former constituency chairman who was sacked, was moving from one radio station to the other, trying to throw dust into the eyes of the public and orchestrating a sinister agenda meant to undermine the party's electoral prospects in the December elections.
Mr Addotey said TESCON would do everything to protect the party and the KEEA parliamentary candidate and appealed to all party members to consider the larger interest of the country and the party in whatever decisions they take.
"Ghanaians will not forgive us if we should lose power because of the desire of individuals to pursue their parochial agenda at the expense of the broad interest of the party".
He commended government for initiating social policies such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Capitation Grant and the school feeding that had endeared the party to the masses.
He said the government had not relented in its efforts at improving social amenities for its people particularly in the region. Mr Addotey appealed to the government to step up the Assin Foso water project and that TESCON believes that gains made by the government should not be made to slip away.
