Dzemeni(VR), March 11, GNA - Dr Samuel Kwame Ampofo, Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency on Monday declared his intention to contest the constituency's parliamentary seat in this year's election.

He made the declaration in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Dzemeni.

Dr Ampofo said he decided to contest the seat again to continue the numerous projects he had initiated in the constituency to improve on the living standards of the people.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the 2000 elections not because of non-performance but the people said they needed change and were now yearning for the return of the NDC.

"The wisest and boldest step that Ghanaians are to take this year is to return the NDC to power" because "God will bless the nation with the most competent, peaceful, tested and trusted leader and that person is Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the NDC," Dr Ampofo said.

He said the NDC inherited a negative Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of minus one point two per cent while the NPP government inherited a 4.5 GDP from the NDC government, which they only raised to 6.8 per cent.

Dr Ampofo appealed to the electorate to discuss, think and vote on issues rather than be swayed by lies being peddled by some politicians. "NDC is the Party that would guarantee your welfare," he assured. Dr Ampofo reminded Ghanaians that they had the power to alleviate their poverty and hardships by giving their mandate to the NDC in this year's elections.

He presented teaching and learning materials to the Kaira basic schools. 11 March 08
