Register & Vote Massively To Maintain “World Bank” Status – Mills Tells Voltarians

Promises First Class Road Through Volta To North

NDC Leader and Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, stepped into the Volta Region on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, after completing his tour of the Northern Region with stops at, Karaga, Gushegu, Yendi and Bimbila.

Entering the Volta Region via the North, the NDC Leader and his entourage were met at Damanko (not Damango) by a large crowd amidst singing and dancing to borborbor music.

Addressing the teeming supporters, Professor Mills thanked the people of the Volta Region for keeping faith with the NDC through thick and thin.

Referring to the World Bank status of the Volta Region as far as delivering the region to the NDC is concerned, Professor Mills said that once the voters register opens in May, everybody above the age of 18 who has not registered, should do so.

“You have an enviable record in being the World Bank of our great NDC Party and the only way you can maintain that status, is by registering massively so that come voting day, you can deliver the region en bloc” Professor Mills said.

“In 2004, we made a mistake and allowed the NPP to take this Nkwanta North seat, and we must make sure that we take back the seat by a very wide margin. I know it is possible for us to take the seat, because I beat Kufuor in the presidential battle but for some reason, skirt and blouse voting made us lose the seat” the NDC Leader said.

“This time around, I have no doubt that with the wind of peace that is blowing here, and with the candidate you have chosen, the NDC will claim the seat for you to prove to the NPP that your yes is your yes, and your no is your no” Professor Mills said to the ecstatic gathering.

Flanked by party Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei and Volta Regional Chairman, Mr. Modestus Ahiable, Professor Mills promised told the people that his government will make the tarring of the major trunk road its priority since even its current poor state, it is still the shortest route to the North from Accra.

“The Northern Region and this Nkwanta area are major food baskets and I know how difficult it is for you to get your stuff to the capital. I pledge to you that you will get a first class road after January 07, 2009, when you have given me the mandate to implement my I Care For You social democratic policies” the NDC Leader added.

From Nkwanta, Professor Mills and his entourage moved through Kadjebi, Jasikan, Akpafu, Santrokofi to Hohoe.

At Hohoe, Professor Mills called on the Gbi Traditional Council before addressing a rally at the Hohoe Roman Catholic park, where he reiterated his call for the people to register in their numbers when the voters register opens.

Professor Mills promised to rebuild the Hohoe town roads and develop the tourism potential in the Hohoe District to be centered around mountain Afadjato and the Wli Water Falls.

Professor Mills also promised that his government will develop bamboo farming and bamboo based small scale manufacturing industries in the Hohoe District.

In the Volta Regional capital Ho, and at the palace of Togbe Afede XIV, Head of the Asogli Traditional Area, Professor Mills promised the people of the region, a university.

Before paying a courtesy call on Togbe Afede, Professor Mills was met by a large retinue of party supporters from Sokode into Ho amidst drumming and dancing.

On his part, Togbe Afede XIV, commended Professor Mills for his retail style of door-to-door campaigning, which is the best way of touching base with the electorate since it is important for politicians to level up with the people they intend to lead.

Latter in the day, Professor Mills addressed a very huge gathering at the Nfodjo park, where he thanked the people of the region for their support and promised to make sure that the region gets its fair share of whatever development cake that will be shared.

Professor Mills’ tour of the Volta Region also saw him visit Daakpa, Akatsi and Sogakope, where his message was the same as in Hohoe and Ho.

At Karaga, Gushegu, Yendi and Bimbila, Professor Mills also thanked the people of the Northern Region for appreciating what the NDC did for them, and promised that a future NDC government led by him, will continue to look favourably at the region just as it will, all other regions.

“My government may not be able to give you everything within the period you will allow me to be in charge of the nation, but with commitment and a determination to better the lot of Ghanaians, I will do my utmost best to bring a meaningful change to you” Atta Mills pledged.

In the North, Professor Mills also told the people to make sure they take advantage of the registration exercise and register in their numbers.

“The only way we can kick out the NPP and give Ghana a new sense of direction, is by voting them out. And we can only vote them out if we register so please make sure that everybody above the age of 18 who has not registered, registers once the registration exercise begins” was how the NDC Leader put it.

At Yendi, Professor Mills called on the regent.

Professor Mills is still in the Volta Region as part of his nationwide tour, and is expected to be in, Akatsi and Sogakope, where he will meet traditional leaders, religious leaders, opinion leaders, party executives as well as party supporters.
