The sitting NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East in Ashanti Region, Hon. Hendric Yeboah faces a tough primary if the following individuals challenge him in the NPP primary.

Names mentioned as possible challengers include Roland Akosah, an Accra-based businessman and Chief Executive Officer of ENO International; Osei B. Acheampong, the Director of Operations at the National Health Insurance Council; Charles Amo-Darte, a consultant at ADF; and Alex Boateng, a building engineer at Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Meanwhile, two individuals Hon. Hendric Yeboah beat in the NPP primary in 2004, Hon. Akwasi Akomeah Kyeremateng, the former MP for the area and former Chairman of Parliamentary Health Committee, and Mr. Nyarko Mensah, a former Director at Ministry of Trade have indicated they too will challenge the sitting MP in the primary.

A movement calling for Hon. Yeboah’s replacement for non-performance plans to demonstrate in the district to send the message to the delegates who vote in the NPP primary that the district needs a new representation in parliament. They believe any of the names cited can win the seat for NPP and be a better MP than Hon. Yeboah.

Past and current politicians from this district include the late Victor Owusu, presidential candidate for Popular Front Party; Commander Pius Griffiths of PNDC and NDC; Hon. Kwadwo Mpiani, current Chief of Staff and Minister of Presidential Affairs; and Charles Wereko-Brobby, leader of New Ghana Movement Party.
