Tema, April 30, GNA -- Mr Richster Nii Amarh Amarfio, Tema East Parliamentary Candidate for Convention People's Party (CPP) on Wednesday called on Parliament to amend the Compulsory Acquisition Act of 1951.

He said the legislature had lost its value as the payment of GHp 15 per annum to land owners by government was inadequate. Mr Amarfio made the call when he was introduced to Nii Adjei Krakue II, Tema Mantse by the constituency executives at Tema. He regretted that the indigenous people of such lands acquired under the Act did not benefit from the acquisition citing Tema as an example where the people lost all their lands for the establishment of industries.

Mr Amarfio called on Parliament to enact laws that would provide development to the people through the amendment of outmoded laws. He called on managements of companies to fulfil their corporate responsibilities by providing social amenities to the people and protect the environment.

Nii Krakue advised him not to use abusive language during the campaign but rather touch on issues while calling on the supporters not to base their loyalty on monetary gains.

He urged political leaders to seek the welfare of the people rather then their own.

Nii Adjetey Agbo II, Tema Mankralo urged politicians to be honest to their supporters and the country.
