Hohoe, July 3, GNA - Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive on Wednesday called for issue-oriented and performance rating campaigns towards this year's elections as evidence of the country's growing political maturity, deepening democratization and political tolerance.

He expressed optimism that the culture of issue-based electioneering campaigns emerging in the country would take over from the days of personality attacks and name-calling. "As we embark on our political campaigns, let us be civil and decorous, in order not to endanger the prevailing peace, unity and communal cohesion", he said at the Assembly's meeting. Mr Amewu told the Assembly members to be passionate with the truth to facilitate discernment by their constituents. Mr Joseph Z. Amenowode, Member of Parliament for Hohoe-South said issue-based campaign had become the modern trend in politics and demonstrated one's understanding of the prevailing problems of the constituents and how to solve them.

Mr Prince Jacob Hayibor, Hohoe-North Member of Parliament said the capacity and capabilities exhibited by political parties to help solve the problems of Ghanaians had added a new dimension to the December elections.

Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area urged the electorates to reject any political party that resorted to attacking personalities just to win their votes. 03/07/08
