Takoradi, Aug. 24, GNA - The Effia-Kwesimintsim branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected a 43 year old computer analyst, Mr Ambrose Sesu Ankrah, as the party's Parliamentary candidate for the area.
One hundred out of the 194 delegates voted for Mr Ankrah while his close competitor, Reverend Samuel Kwesi Nyarko polled 66 votes. The only woman in the contest, Madam Basila Dudani received a total of 22 votes in the election supervised by Ms Ernestina Owusu-Banahene, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Sub Metro District Electoral Officer.
Speaking after the election, Mr Ankrah expressed his appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work hard to win the seat for the NDC.
He however appealed to the electorates to educate their relations to vote massively for him during the general elections. Alhaji Baba Jamal, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, urged Ghanaians to look at their current situation and vote the New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of power during the December general election.
"Make your comparison, when we were in power and how things have become expensive now", he said.
He pointed out that, the NDC is prepared for a battle, explaining that "it is not war, but a battle to get the people to vote the NDC into power. Please hand over power peacefully when the NDC wins". Alhaji Jamal said the NDC would not sit down for NPP to flout electoral rules adding, "We will fight vigorously and resist all attempts by any political party to rig the election".
Colonel Kaku Korsah (Rtd), Western Regional Organiser of the NDC urged the media to be fair to all the political parties in their reportage.
He said surveys conducted by civil society organizations indicated that the NDC was in the lead in this year's election, adding that "this is a clear manifestation that the NDC will win this election".
