Thursday, 11 September 2008 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman West Constituency, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has promised to work extra hard to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon Stephen Asamoah Boateng in the December 7 elections.
According to Tawiah Quansah, Asamoah Boateng has been deceiving the electorate with incentives but that would not be enough to save him from losing the seat. The aspiring MP, who is also an Advertiser, said this on Tuesday at an NDC massive rally at Mankessim. He stated, “Asamoah Boateng has been going round telling people I don’t have money to campaign, yes I admit I don’t have money but I will show him that money cannot win elections. I wish he (Asabee) were here to see the crowd here for himself, crowd who have not been bussed but came on their own free will to listen to the NDC message, an indication that the people have woken up and will vote massively for the NDC this time round”, he stressed.
He noted that Asamoah Boateng had done nothing for the constituency since he was given the mandate as MP for the area, alleging that he has started distributing food to win the peoples’ favour because elections was approaching. Tawiah Quansah appealed to the people to vote for him to bring the needed development to the area.
He promised to lobby for a market complex at Mankessim and also lobby for the establishment of citrus factory in the area to process the fruits produced there. Speaking at the same function, the flag bearer of the NDC, Prof John Evans Atta Mills, described Aquinas Quansah as the man the area needed to move forward with.
Prof Mills promised to work in close collaboration with him and all other parliamentary candidates of the party to bring development to their various constituencies when voted to power in December 2008. Prof Mills, who had earlier addressed similar rallies at Anomabo, Abeadze Dominase and Saltpond, promised to establish a Fisheries Research Institute at William Fort at Anomabo, to train the youth to repair and assemble outboard motors, which would be sold to fishermen on credit basis. He also promised to make Saltpond the industrial centre of the Mfantseman West Constituency and revive the Ceramics factory to create jobs for the youth. Prof Mills also promised to establish an oil mill and soap processing factory at Abeadze Dominase, because of the abundance of palm fruits there.
In another development, the head of communications of the Prof Mills’ campaign team, Mr Koku Anyidoho, has stated that the NDC will not retaliate or deal with the state security that maltreated their flag bearer’s body guards, should it win the December polls. He said the party will not pursue the case further but will leave everything to God, since the Minister of Information, Hon. Asamoah Boateng, had already stated that the President was not going to react or apologise to the party about the incident.
Prof Mills’ chief security capo, Emmanuel Ewusie, alias ‘Angola’, was brutalized during the Fetu Afahye celebrations on Saturday in Cape Coast by the President’s security detail, which left him in coma and hospitalised. He advised NDC supporters to remain calm and tolerant before, during and after the elections. Meanwhile, ‘Angola’, who is said to be recovering, has claimed that he lost US $ 600, GH ¢ 25 and two mobile phones during the assault by the military men on that fateful Saturday.
