Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has emerged victorious in the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, winning decisively with 49 votes, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.
The results, announced on Monday, February 17, 2025, showed Obimpeh leading by a considerable margin. Nkansah Boadu Nana Ayeboafo secured 35 votes, while Daniel Anarfi Yamoah received one vote.
Out of the 86 expected votes, 85 valid votes were cast, with no ballots rejected.
The re-run of the Ashanti Regional Council of State election on Monday, February 17, 2025, followed an earlier election on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, which was abruptly halted due to an attack by thugs on Electoral Commission (EC) officials.
The attackers destroyed several materials, including ballot papers, and assaulted some journalists, leading to the suspension of the election process and the subsequent re-run.
During the re-run, a confrontation between the police and some supporters of a candidate resulted in the arrest of one person.
