'Bring Ken Agyapong and the people will give us power' – Dr Ampaabeng

Former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr Alex Ampaabeng has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to listen to the calls from its grassroots supporters ahead of the presidential primaries and vote for Kennedy Agyapong.

According to Dr Ampaabeng, the party’s grassroots have a clear message for the delegates; “Bring this person, and we will give you the power.”

He revealed that the individual the grassroots have been rallying behind is Kennedy Agyapong, one of the frontrunners in the party’s flagbearership race.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3 on August 5, 2025, Dr. Ampaabeng, who has openly declared his support for Kennedy Agyapong, said, “Whatever decision I’m making is not based on betrayal, it is based on the information I have gathered on the ground.”

He emphasised, “The people who sent me believe that if you bring this person [Kennedy Agyapong], they will give you the power.”

“I do believe the time is right, Kennedy is the right candidate,” he stressed.

Dr Ampaabeng also called on the party to avoid politics of insults as it prepares for this crucial leadership election.

He urged members to focus on obtaining credible information and using it strategically for the party’s benefit.

“In politics, you don’t have weapons. Your weapon is your information. How you get it, how you process it, and how you use it to strategise determines whether you succeed or fail politically,” he noted.

According to him, the information he has received from the grassroots strongly indicates that the party’s base is more likely to support the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong is selected as the presidential candidate.
