Samuel Atta Akyea, former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, has dismissed warnings from New Patriotic Party (NPP) founding member and economist, Andrews Kwame Pianim, that the NPP risks fading into political irrelevance like the Convention People's Party (CPP) if internal conflicts remain unresolved.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Monday, September 15, 2025, Atta Akyea described Pianim's assertion as invalid.
He argued that the NPP's resilience is rooted in the sacrifices of its founding fathers, particularly Dr Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah (JB Danquah).
"Dr JB Danquah was imprisoned at Nsawam. He paid the ultimate price. This party has spiritual roots and nothing can destroy the NPP," 3news.com quoted Atta Akyea as saying during the interview.
He therefore rejected Pianim's suggestion that the NPP could become irrelevant in Ghana's political landscape like the CPP.
Pianim had earlier cautioned that unless the NPP resolved its internal wranglings, it risked collapsing in the same manner as the CPP.

He stressed that the future of the party rests on the shoulders of its younger members, who must take responsibility for charting the right course.
"They have to listen because it's their future. As I said, it's not my future. If we do not listen and restructure our party, the NPP will become as irrelevant to the politics of Ghana as the CPP has become.
"I don't agree with it. We are trying to restructure the party. The young people who are running the party have to look and listen so we get the direction right."
He also disclosed that several founding members were unhappy with the party's current trajectory and had been engaging the leadership in Parliament, the National Secretariat and the Council of Elders to press for a stakeholder meeting.
According to him, such an engagement is necessary to review strategy and unite the party's base.
"They are worried about the direction the young people are taking the party. I'm hoping we'll get our act together to rebuild, restructure and build a united front to move forward," Pianim added.
