NDC national Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketia
NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured Ghanaians that the era of waste, silence and impunity must come to an end, declaring that every pesewa of public money belongs to the people and must be protected.
Speaking to an enthusiastic gathering of party faithful and residents, he lamented how enormous loans secured by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government for national development were misused, with little to show on the ground.
Instead of delivering tangible projects, he said these loans were misused to accumulate interest, inflicting severe financial losses on the state.
He stressed that when public funds are mismanaged, it is the ordinary Ghanaian who ultimately pays the price.
He therefore called for thorough investigations and insisted that all those found culpable must be surcharged, publicly exposed and made to face the full rigour of the law.
He reminded supporters that the reduction in the number of ministers is not mere rhetoric but a clear NDC commitment aimed at cutting waste and restoring discipline in government.
Chairman Asiedu Nketia urged those entrusted with public office to work diligently for the people, emphasising that any reshuffles would be based strictly on performance, not loyalty.
On security and opportunity, he noted that the ongoing regional recruitment into the security services reflects the party's commitment to strengthening national security while creating fair opportunities for young people across the country.
Addressing the issue of corruption, Asiedu Nketiah acknowledged the frustration of citizens who have waited too long for justice and assured them that investigations are ongoing.
He cautioned that no one should feel comfortable because they believe time will shield them, stressing that once investigations are concluded, stolen resources will be recovered and justice will be served.
He further highlighted the mismanagement and embezzlement in the cocoa sector, describing it as a painful betrayal of farmers whose hard work sustains the economy.
He explained that the sector was used as collateral to secure loans, yet when repayment became due, there was little to show for it.
According to him, corruption and loopholes within the cocoa value chain led to unnecessary procurements, further weakening the sector.
He, however, called for collective reforms to reposition the cocoa sector in a manner that benefits farmers, industry players and the wider Ghanaian economy.
Chairman Asiedu Nketia concluded with a rallying call for unity and resolve, urging party supporters and citizens alike to remain hopeful.
He reaffirmed that Ghana can and must do better, stressing that with discipline, accountability and collective effort, public funds will be protected, corruption punished and a nation that works for all will be rebuilt.
