Frimpong-Boateng could become the latest NPP member expelled
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated disciplinary proceedings to expel former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, after he described the party as “fake” during a Channel One TV interview on January 12, 2026.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, the party confirmed that the matter had been referred to its disciplinary committee, stressing that such remarks undermine party unity and credibility.
If expelled, Frimpong-Boateng will join a growing list of prominent figures who have been removed from the NPP in recent years.

Cynthia Mamle Morrison (December 2024)
Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the former Member of Parliament for Agona West, was expelled alongside nearly 280 members of the constituency for alleged anti-party behaviour, including supporting rival candidates of the party.
Andrew Amoako Asiamah (2020)
In 2020, the NPP expelled Andrew Amoako Asiamah, Member of Parliament for Fomena, after he broke ranks with the party to contest as an independent candidate.
His expulsion was highly controversial, as Asiamah went on to win his seat and later became the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
He has since been welcomed back into the party and still serves as MP for Fomena and the Second Speaker of Parliament.
Yaw Buaben Asamoa (August 2022)
Also, a former Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, was expelled in August 2022 for openly supporting Alan Kyerematen after the latter's resignation from the party.
His removal was framed as a matter of disloyalty, with the leadership insisting that senior figures must uphold unity even in times of internal disagreement.
Nana Ohene Ntow (August 2022)
Nana Ohene Ntow, a former General Secretary of the NPP was also expelled in August 2022.
His offense was backing Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, which the party leadership viewed as divisive and undermining its cohesion.
Hopeson Adorye (August 2022)
Known for his outspoken nature, Hopeson Adorye was expelled in the same wave of disciplinary actions in August 2022.
He had campaigned alongside Alan Kyerematen and made public statements that the party considered damaging to its image.
Boniface Abubakar Saddique (August 2022)
Former Minister for Zongo Development, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, was expelled for aligning himself with Alan Kyerematen’s political movement and engaging in activities classified as anti-party.
He was expelled along with Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Alan Kyermaten and others.
Alan Kyerematen (September 2023)
The former Minister of Trade and Industry, and NPP flagbearer hopeful resigned from the NPP and later launched the Movement for Change (which is now known as the United Party).
His departure was followed by his expulsion from the party, as the leadership accused him of undermining its unity and attempting to split its base.
Solomon Owusu (2024)
Finally, vocal activist and critic of the NPP party, Solomon Owusu, was also expelled after repeated clashes with NPP leadership.
His outspoken criticisms of internal corruption and alleged mismanagement was deemed anti-party conduct, leading to his removal.
