Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko
Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, has endorsed former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko as a suitable chairman for the party, citing his firmness, discipline and ability to restore unity within the NPP.
Osei-Owusu warned that the NPP risks further decline if urgent steps are not taken to address growing indiscipline and weak enforcement of party rules, which he said have undermined internal cohesion and reduced the party’s national appeal.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Friday, January 23, 2026, he stressed the need for strong and authoritative leadership at the national level to reverse the party’s fortunes.
According to him, the lack of discipline within the party has emboldened misconduct among some members, leading to internal divisions and the defection of supporters to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“It got to a point where many people are leaving the NPP to join the NDC and the numbers keep increasing. That tells you that something is attracting them,” he said.
Osei-Owusu attributed the NDC’s growing appeal to the firm leadership style of its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, whom he described as consistent and uncompromising in enforcing discipline.
“We need a chairman like Asiedu Nketiah. The consistency and firmness he shows are what keep the NDC together,” he stated.
He noted that strict discipline and accountability create order within a political party and make it more attractive to both supporters and floating voters.
“If you are there and you want to be stubborn, he will deal with you. That seriousness brings order and makes the party attractive,” he added.
He therefore called for a deliberate search for a capable leader who can unify the party, enforce discipline and reposition it for future electoral contests.
In this regard, Osei-Owusu threw his weight behind Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, describing him as experienced, firm and widely respected within the party.
“If Boakye Agyarko decides to lead the party, I will abandon everything I’m doing to support him. He is the person who can restore discipline and bring everyone back together,” he affirmed.
