The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has reiterated his stance that the party will not tolerate individuals who attempt to hold both party and government positions at the same time.
Speaking at a press briefing shared on X on January 29, 2026, Kwetey stated that government appointees who intend to contest for party positions must first resign from their government roles.
During his address, Fifi Kwetey questioned party members who are currently serving in government while also seeking to occupy party positions, stressing that they are not the only ones entitled to benefit from the party.

According to him, the NDC is filled with competent individuals with the capacity to manage public affairs, not only within the party but also at the national level.
“The NDC has so many people. Our numbers are massive, millions of supporters. We have so many people capable of holding positions. It cannot be a situation where only one or two individuals are capable of holding an appointed position in government and also a party position.
"It just cannot be. God forbid if any of us drop dead today, the NDC has so many people who can do an excellent job,” he said.
He explained that the issue is about reducing excesses and ensuring fairness within the party.
“You are alone one man no chop. What’s your problem? So, if you want to work for the party, you leave your position in government. Yes, come and contest and win, then we know you are fully dedicated,” he added.
The General Secretary further noted that party faithful who wish to work for the NDC should focus fully on party responsibilities rather than holding multiple offices.

“It’s no longer going to be permitted once it is approved for you to be both in Parliament and in government at the same time. Why? You alone, why? It is the same principle.
“If you want to work for the party, resign from whatever position you are in, come down, dedicate yourself, and work for the party. And working for the party is great work,” he concluded.
