The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has welcomed the Court of Appeal’s decision to order a retrial in a defamation case filed against him by veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako.

In a post shared on his X page on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Agyapong wrote, "The Court of Appeal has now set aside the High Court’s judgment and ordered a retrial of the matter to ensure that the issues are properly determined. In addition, the Court has directed that all monies paid pursuant to the High Court’s judgment be refunded to me within thirty (30) days."

He expressed confidence in the country’s judicial process, adding, "I remain confident in the judicial process and committed to pursuing this matter through the appropriate legal channels."

The appeal follows an earlier judgment in 2020 by the Accra High Court in favour of Baako, which came after portions of Agyapong’s witness statements were struck out at the Case Management Conference (CMC) stage.

Agyapong challenged the decision, explaining that “The process and outcome did not reflect the full substance of my case.”
