A former Minister of Food and Agriculture under the administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former flagbearer hopeful, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has lost his campaign spokesperson, Dr Prince Amuzu Sodoke.
Dr Sodoke reportedly passed away on April 22, 2026, at the The Bank Hospital after a short illness.
According to a family source, he complained of ill health and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Initial laboratory examinations reportedly showed no significant findings.
However, his condition suddenly worsened, and despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise him, he could not be saved.
The news of his passing has come as a major shock to Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them.
“I’m still reeling with shock upon hearing the news of his passing. I cannot bring myself to accept that Sodoke is no more. He was such an intelligent young man, imbued with wisdom. He was a member of my kitchen cabinet and played a key role in major decisions on my campaign,” Dr Akoto said.
Dr Sodoke was a respected professional and public servant.
He previously served as District Chief Executive for Akatsi North in the Volta Region for New Patriotic Party under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addos Presidency.
Academically, he was highly accomplished.
He held a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS.D) from the University for Development Studies, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi.
In addition, he obtained an Executive Certificate in Good Corporate Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and was a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (FWAPCMLS).
He is survived by his wife and five children.
His passing marks a significant loss to both the medical and political communities, where he was widely regarded for his intellect,
professionalism, and dedication to service.
