Matthew Opoku Prempeh was the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party
NPP communicator Awal Mohammed has defended Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, arguing that the former running mate made significant sacrifices for the party by accepting the vice-presidential slot.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Awal said Napo did not simply receive the position but gave up an active parliamentary career when he accepted Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s invitation to be his running mate.
According to him, Napo was already an established political figure before making the move.
“He was an MP. He told him, I want you to be my running mate, to be the vice president. He abandoned the MP and came in,” Awal stated.
He noted that Napo is no longer returning to Parliament and has since transitioned into a different stage of political leadership.
“Now, he’s not going back as an MP again. He’s a statesman. He’s someone who is really one of the big men in the party,” he added.
Awal argued that Napo’s political experience and standing within the NPP explain why he was selected for the role in the first place.
“That’s the reason he qualified to be on that seat,” he said.
