Richard Takyi-Mensah, NPP Central Regional Secretary
Incumbent Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Takyi-Mensah, has filed his nomination to seek re-election.
Speaking after submitting his nomination forms, Takyi-Mensah expressed confidence in retaining his position despite facing competition.
"I know someone has also filed to contest the election as secretary, but God willing, victory will be mine," he said.
Takyi-Mensah said he enters the race with experience, loyalty, commitment and dedication to the party as his strongest credentials.
"I have supported this party with all my. This time, I come on board with experience, commitment, loyalty and dedication to the cause of the NPP," he stated.
He further indicated that he has remained active in the party during difficult periods and has played a key role in strengthening its support base.
He cited his involvement in the Assin North parliamentary case at the Accra High Court, where he said he represented the party's interests for about a year despite facing threats from the opposition.
"I have been a sacrificial lamb for the party. When we came into opposition, we did not rest on our oars. We continued to energize the base of the party," he said.
Takyi-Mensah also claimed that he lost his job at the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) due to political persecution stemming from his service to the party.
He said the NPP needs an experienced, politically mature and unifying leader who can reconnect the regional leadership with the grassroots ahead of the 2028 general elections.
"The party, at this crucial moment, requires someone who is experienced, politically mature and a unifier. I believe I have these qualities, judging from my track record," he said.
Takyi-Mensah recalled serving on the regional executive team that contributed to the party's victory in the 2016 general elections. He previously served as the Regional Communications Officer and currently holds the position of Regional Secretary.
He pledged to continue operating an open-door administration and to welcome ideas and contributions from party members.
"I will continue to use my experience in the service of the party. I will welcome all strategies and suggestions that can help deliver the region to the victory table of the NPP," he said.
Campaign Manager for Richard Takyi-Mensah and former Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), John Kwaning Mbroh, described him as a dedicated grassroots politician.
"He is a sacrificial lamb and a colossus of the party in the Central Region. He has worked for the party with humility, honesty and dedication," Mr. Mbroh said.
Mbroh said the presence of constituency chairpersons and other party executives at the nomination filing demonstrated the level of support Mr. Takyi-Mensah enjoys within the party.
The Awutu Senya East Constituency Secretary, Michael Addy, also endorsed Mr. Takyi-Mensah's bid.
"He is a grassroots person. If we are looking for institutional memory, he stands tall. The party in the region will be better off with him as Regional Secretary," he said.
