Afoko takes 3R unity message to NPP delegates in Eastern Region

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko, has taken his campaign for the party’s National Chairmanship to the Eastern Region, engaging delegates and party stakeholders as part of his “3R Unity Tour”.

The three-day tour, held from Tuesday, September 15 to Thursday, September 17, 2026, formed part of Afoko’s nationwide campaign ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.

Afoko is contesting the National Chairmanship position on a platform built around the message of “Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture”, which he says is aimed at restoring unity within the party, rebuilding its structures and preparing it to return to political power in the 2028 general election.

The former National Chairman secured the third position on the ballot paper after the NPP conducted balloting for candidates on September 9. Former General Secretary John Boadu picked the first position, Sammy Crabbe the second, while former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko secured the fourth position.

## Engagements with delegates

During the Eastern Region tour, Afoko interacted with delegates across the various blocs, constituency-level stakeholders and party activists.

The engagements provided an opportunity for the chairmanship aspirant to present his vision for the party while listening to concerns and expectations from delegates ahead of the national executive elections.

He also met members of the Eastern Regional Executive Committee, where discussions focused on the state of the party, internal cohesion and the need for collective responsibility as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election.

According to the campaign report on the tour, the engagements were centred on reconciliation, discipline, unity and the rebuilding of confidence among party members.

Afoko pushes ‘3R’ agenda

A central message delivered by Afoko throughout the tour was the need for the NPP to reunite, rebuild and recapture political power.

He argued that the party must first address internal divisions and rebuild trust among its members if it is to achieve its objective of winning the 2028 general election.

The campaign report said Afoko also appealed to party members with individual political ambitions to temporarily put those ambitions aside and concentrate on the broader objective of rebuilding the party.

"Any other ambition can wait for now. Let’s all work together in unity to secure victory for the Party with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028," he said.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was elected the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election at the party’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026. He secured 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of valid votes cast.

Dr Bawumia has also publicly called on NPP members to set aside their differences and work together towards the party’s 2028 objective.

Campaign reports warm reception

The campaign report described the reception to Afoko’s tour as warm, with delegates and party stakeholders showing interest in his message of reconciliation and unity.

It said several delegates expressed willingness to support efforts to promote the unity message and keep the party focused on the 2028 election.

The report further said the engagements went beyond the immediate chairmanship contest, with discussions focusing on healing internal divisions, rebuilding relationships and restoring a common sense of purpose within the party.

Focus on 2028

Afoko’s campaign has sought to link the National Chairmanship contest to the NPP’s broader preparations for the 2028 general election.

The campaign report said the Eastern Region engagements were used to emphasise that individual ambitions should not overshadow the party’s collective objective of rebuilding its structures and supporting its presidential candidate.

The message comes against the backdrop of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election and the party’s subsequent internal processes, including the election of Dr Bawumia as its flagbearer for the next general election.

Three-day tour

The Eastern Region tour formed part of the aspiring Chairman’s wider campaign engagements ahead of the October 3 national executive elections.

The campaign report identified the main outcomes of the tour as increased engagement with delegates, discussions on party unity, reinforcement of the 3R message and renewed emphasis on the NPP’s 2028 objective.

The meeting with the Eastern Regional executives was also identified as an important component of the tour, providing an opportunity for the aspirant to engage directly with regional party leadership.

With the national executive elections approaching, Afoko is among four candidates seeking to lead the NPP as National Chairman. The ballot order is John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko.

The October 3 elections will determine the party’s next national executive team as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election.
