Alexander Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader in Parliament
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has alleged that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament face threats whenever they criticise the John Dramani Mahama led government.
According to him, some of his colleagues have been invited for questioning and subjected to investigations after speaking out against the government.

“Anytime we criticise the NDC even in Parliament, MPs are threatened, and it is me telling you this, there are times that some of my colleagues are afraid to speak up because of these things they send me a message that they do not want to speak up on the Floor because of this", he stated in an Adom TV interview on September 29, 2026.
He alleged that some MPs have been invited for questioning and kept for several hours, because they criticised the government.
"They will invite such MPs, and they can spend close to 7 hours at BNI, and they won't even interrogate you, but they will intentionally invite you", he claimed.
Afenyo-Markin also accused the NDC government of becoming intolerant of criticisms, stressing that MPs have the right to express their views.
