Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Hopeson Adorye has revealed that he was part of a group that allegedly manufactured a flyer falsely portraying former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei as a parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an attempt to oppose her appointment.

Speaking on JoyNews on October 13, 2026, Adorye said the flyer formed part of a propaganda campaign by some NPP members against Osei’s appointment by then President John Dramani Mahama.

Recounting the events, he said he was part of a group formed within the party’s national communications team to campaign against the appointment.

“We manufactured a flyer. In 2016, go there and check the walls of NPP people and see.

“[It was a flyer of] Charlotte Osei being a parliamentary candidate for Komenda or Mfantsiman, something like that, and it wasn't true. It was manufactured,” he said.

Adorye explained that although he was not responsible for designing the flyer, he was involved in the campaign against the former EC chairperson.

“We were using that just to demonize the whole process and say that Charlotte Osei is an NDC member, so we should reject the appointment,” he added.

He alleged that the group was formed during a national communications meeting of the NPP, where the party’s then Communications Director, Nana Akomea, brought together about six members and named them the “Young Patriots”.

“I am saying that at the national communications meeting, which I was a member of, Nana Akomea, who was a director then, put a few of us, about six, together and then named ourselves the Young Patriots,” he said.

Adorye added that the group was involved in various activities aimed at discrediting Charlotte Osei’s appointment.

“We were put together. All the machinations, including the flyer, we were doing it… and these are some of the propaganda we did against Charlotte Osei,” he said.

Adorye, who recently left the NPP to join the United Party (UP), accused the party of hypocrisy over its opposition to President Mahama’s appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as one of the two new Deputy Electoral Commission Chairpersons.

He claimed that the NPP appointed its own people to the positions after Charlotte Osei was removed from office and, therefore, had no moral right to criticise the current appointments.

“The reason why they are hypocrites is that when President Mahama did the appointment, we opposed that appointment. We fought it. We designed this just to make it that the woman was political,” he added.

Charlotte Osei was appointed EC Chairperson by President Mahama in 2015. She was removed from office in June 2018 following a committee inquiry into allegations of stated misbehaviour and incompetence.
