A National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, James Agbey, has warned that the alleged neglect of the party’s electoral task force could trigger a backlash, describing the treatment of members following the party’s 2024 election victory as a “recipe for disaster”.

In a statement dated October 22, 2026, Agbey accused the party and government of failing to address the welfare and employment concerns of operatives who, he said, played key roles in mobilising supporters and protecting ballots during the elections.

“Enough is enough,” he declared, demanding jobs, empowerment opportunities and the fulfilment of alleged promises to secure placements for some task force members in the national security sector.

According to Agbey, the concerns of the operatives extend beyond employment to include recognition and representation in the party’s decision-making structures.

He said some members felt they had been relied on to mobilise support and provide electoral security during the campaign but were sidelined after the NDC secured victory.

Agbey further claimed that some government appointees who made limited contributions to the party’s electoral success had benefited from the victory, while grassroots campaigners continued to struggle.

“As a leader and someone who actually deployed some of these boys for electoral politics, I’m aware of their plight,” he stated.

He described the situation as “disgraceful self-sabotage” and urged the party’s leadership to take urgent steps to address the grievances.

Agbey warned that the perceived neglect could undermine efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and mobilise support ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He also cautioned that unresolved grievances could affect the party’s internal electoral processes, as political activity intensifies ahead of its next round of internal elections.

“The strength of the NDC always lies in the ability to protect its people from the savagery of capitalism. Sadly, the umbrella cannot protect its own,” he said.

The NDC operative also alleged that some members of the electoral task force had been promised jobs in the national security sector, but those placements had yet to materialise. His statement, however, did not identify the individuals who allegedly made the promises or provide further details about the proposed appointments.

He called on party leaders and government appointees to engage with the affected operatives and address their concerns, warning that their frustration should not be underestimated.

“Let those who have ears listen to the cries of the NDC electoral task force,” Agbey said.
