Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), June 1, GNA - The Central Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kow Anyanful has urged the youth of the party to claim ownership of it. This, he said, was because they are the future leaders and must not wait for the leaders to go to eternity before claiming the ownership. Mr Anyanful made the call at a meeting of the Gomoa West Constituency branch of the youth wing of the NDC at Gomoa Ankamu, near Apam. He urged them to be disciplined to win the confidence of the elders that they would be able to take very good care of the party after they had gone. They must take keen interest in the activities of the party and ensure that it remained in power for a long time. The NDC Regional Secretary said the youth might not be in agreement with certain decisions taken by the elders but they (the youth) must exercise patience in dealing with them. Mrs Sati Ocran, a leading member of the party, advised the youth to do away with behaviours which could tarnish the image of the party and themselves. She urged them to exercise patience with the government as it made efforts to cater for their welfare. Mrs Ocran assured them that the government would not turn its back on the youth. Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, appealed to members of the party to publicize achievements, policies and programmes of the party to enable Ghanaians to know what the government had done and what it wanted to do to better their condition of living. "We must not keep mute over what the government has done," he said, and added: "If the President had not embarked on a nationwide tour, Ghanaians would not have known that the government had achieved so much." The DCE advised members and supporters of the party to engage in phone-in programmes to counter allegations being made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters against the NDC and also to use that medium to explain government policies and programmes. He said by his estimation, President Mills' government had achieved more in a short time than any other government after Dr Nkrumah's Convention Peoples Party (CPP). Mr Aidoo-Mensah urged the youth not to panic over the impasse in the party as it would come out of the July congress more united than ever to work towards the 2012 general elections. Mr Juba Jehu-Appiah, Gomoa West Constituency Vice Chairman, urged the youth to rally behind the party and stop fighting for their own interests. He urged them to rather fight for things which could benefit majority of the people. Mr Anthony Eyiah Quansah, Presiding Member of the Gomoa West Assembly, appealed to the youth to support Unit Committees and Town Councils to work to improve conditions of the people. Mr Kobena Darko, Gomoa West Constituency Youth Organiser, expressed concern about lack of free-flow of information in the party. He said people at the constituencies and wards hardly heard what was going on in the party. He appealed for logistics for the 2012 campaign, and membership cards. The youth organizer pledged the determination of the youth to die for the party in 2012 general elections.
