The 2008 presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, who recently launched his bid to contest the CPP flag-bearerehip race to contest in 2012, has reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Ghana if given the nod.

He said he has employed over 2,000 Ghanaians in his many businesses across the length and breadth of the country and was looking forward to becoming president in order to do more. Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom owns businesses such as 1st National Bank, Gold Coast Securities, Coconut Grove Hotels, Elmina Sharks Football Club among others.

According to him, God has blessed him with fortune and luck as he has enough to eat with his family and was only in politics to help fight poverty which he said is steering us in the face and needed urgent solution and attention. He added, being a president gives one the power to do so many things for one’s people and that he was committed to developing Ghana while reducing the country’s over dependence on foreign aid.

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom was speaking to the Greater Accra Volunteer Youth Group of Nduom for 2012 at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra on Sunday, 13th November.

He said “we would run an inclusive government and do something different - bring inclusiveness into Ghanaian society so that the best people get the right jobs and contracts. We promised that a CPP administration led by me would be open, transparent and will attack corruption and indiscipline with a sense of urgency so that we could build a just and caring society that is prosperous”.

He admitted that the party performed woefully in the 2008 elections which he also described as his worse performance ever in life. “It was a disaster as I failed miserably. I can’t even explain it. It has however thought me useful lessons, to be consistent and persistent in life” he added.

He has pledged to work with the leadership of the CPP to win power in 2012. He noted that “I have started to work with the elected Party executives at all levels to publicly open sixty (60) constituency offices sponsored by me and spread throughout the country. I have pledged to support the parliamentary campaigns in fifty (50) constituencies selected by the Central Committee of the Party”.

When asked how he will run his government since the CPP has only one seat in parliament, Dr. Nduom said “in Ghana, we run an executive form of government where one person is given the authority to form a government using the best men and women he or she can find inside and outside parliament. We do not run a parliamentary one where a party needs a majority in the Legislature to form government”.
