The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is to launch a research on the provision, distribution and access to core text books in public primary schools in Ghana.

The CDD-Ghana would undertake this exercise in collaboration with the Results for Development (R4D), an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Washington DC, United States of America.

A statement signed by Dr. Franklin Oduro, Head, Research and Programmes, CDD-Ghana, copied the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Wednesday, said the current research, which tracked the provision, distribution and access to core textbooks and other essential supplementary materials in public primary schools in Ghana, was a follow–up to the Center’s two previous education governance researches, which focused on “Teacher Absenteeism in public primary schools” and “Tracking possible leakages in the disbursement and use of capitation grant in public primary schools in Ghana”.

It said as part of the current project, CDD-Ghana deployed researchers to 30 selected schools in the Central Region of Ghana to interview district directors of education, supply and logistics officers, head teachers, teachers, executives of Parent-Teacher Associations and School Management Committees on the distribution and access to core textbooks in public primary schools.

“The findings from this research and further consultations with stakeholders in education have been analysed and a report and policy briefs produced”, the statement said.
