in Ablekumah West Constituency

With barely six day to go for the National Polls, the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Ablekumah West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Miss Victoria Hammah last Friday evening organised a mammoth rally to boost her chances of winning the Ablekumah West Constituency parliamentary seat.

The event which was organised at the forecourt of the Dansoman market near the Exhibition Roundabout attracted a huge section of NDC party faithfuls and sympathisers in the constituency.

At 31 years of age, Miss Hammah is the youngest parliamentary candidate in the race to become a Member of Parliament and for the newly created constituency.

In her keynote speech, Miss Hammah outlined her vision for Ablekumah West residents when elected as Member of Parliament for the constituency.

She said her programme for job creation for the youth in the constituency is to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurships. Miss Hammah said through her own initiative has set up the Progressive Organisation for Youth Development in the constituency to cater for youth development in sports, entrepreneurship and education. The Youth Organisation would be used to channel resources and youth ideas into productive enterprise in areas of IT and self-employment.

She also said throughout her campaign, her interaction with the self-employed revealed lack of financial support and training, especially for women engaged in petty trading and small scale businesses in the constituency. Miss Hammah said an NGO under her patronage, the Progressive Organisation for Women Advancement would assist in the training of women in good business practices so that such traders can have access to loans to expand their trading.

On health related matters, Miss Hammah said currently Ablekumah West Constituency is served by one small community clinic which she hopes to use her good offices, if elected as an MP, to help expand into a fully-fledged Polyclinic to cater for the growing number of people in the constituency.

Miss Hammah was critical of NPP flag bearer’s promises of free SHS education, describing it as not feasible under the present circumstances. She said what is important at the moment is to build more schools so that schools can be made accessible to students. She promised to help expand school infrastructure in the constituency to make education affordable and accessible by Ablekumah West residents.

She said President Mahamah is moving Ghana in the right direction and that everything stated in the NDC 2012 manifesto is achievable. She was of the view that if NDC campaign on the issues, the Party and President John Mahamah would be retained in power on December 7. She therefore called on her constituents to vote massively for the NDC and President Mahama to continue the good work that president Mills started.

"The NDC administration under the able leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama is determined to create a society in which we all have equal and fair opportunities to live good and decent lives,” she said.

Present at the rally were Ablekumah West NDC constituency party executives, which include Constituency Chairman, Captain retired Eric Dodoo and the Constituency Secretary Mr William Ayiku Ocansey.

The rally ended with a procession through the principal streets in Dansoman and the local communities.
