ARKAAH TO CHALLENGE J.J. IN '96, - NCP IS 'BORN AGAIN'

Mon, 6 Feb 1995 Source: --

Last Saturday - May 27, 1995 marked the formal breakaway of the National Convention Party from the Progressive Alliance, from the tentacles of the National Democratic Congress - The Indepenent

A hilarious Roland Attah-Kesson, Chairman of the NCP, whose joy summed up the mood of delegates at the National Executive Meeting declared to the tumultuous cheers of delegates that "The NCP is born again".

Nobody was happier than the Vice-President of Ghana-Kow Nkensen Arkaah. He was at the top of his voice singing and waving his hands to signify new frontiers for his own political career.

Although the NCP will hold its National Congress at the end of the year, Party sources say that with the rupture of the Progressive Alliance all is set for Veep Arkaah to contest the 1996 elections in his own right against President Rawlings.

The NCP also stated that it was leaving the Progressive Alliance because the NDC government has sold back Ghana to Western neo-colonial interests.

Our sources say that Captain Tsikata indeed took an active part in the decision to break away and helped to draft the communique.
