A group in the Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East region calling itself Nabdam Dynamic Democrats (NDD) have leveled several allegations against the Member of Parliament(MP) for the area, Mr. Bonifice Gambilla.
At a Press Conference organized by the group at Kongo, the group accused the MP of trying to take undue credits of developmental projects in the area, and cited the on-going Rural Electrification Project and the construction of the on-going Bolgatanga-Bawku road as examples, which the MP on different platforms stated that he initiated them.
The President of the group, Josbert Zure, also the spokesperson, stressed that the MP's claims were all false, and indicated that it was rather the National Democratic Congress(NDC) government that initiated the projects, stressing, “we the people of Nabdam are more discerning, and you must stop telling lies to the public.”
The group also alleged that the MP used part of his common fund to purchase solar lamps and retailed them to the constituents at the cost of 30 Ghana cedis each to make profit for himself.
In furtherance, the group accused him of not paying special attention to the educational needs of the people, and stated that comparatively, his predecessor, Mr. Moses Asaga, spent much of his common fund sponsoring students who had turned out to be better now, but in his case it was not so.
They stated that his refusal to attend important National fora such as the National Economic Forum, and the inauguration of President John Mahama, including refusal to attend to the students of the Kongo Senior High School when they visited Parliament to familiarize themselves with the legislature were all clear indications that his presence in Parliament was to satisfy his own parochial interest.
The MP, the group alleged, had never tabled any of the concerns of the constituency in Parliament, and that the only time they heard him on the floor of Parliament was when he made a statement during the discussions of the increment of MP salaries.
However, rebutting the allegations, the MP described the group as not a recognizable group in the area, and pointed out that all the allegations leveled against him were not true.
He refuted that he never made statements that he initiated the Rural Electrification project and the Bolgatanga-Bawku road.
On the solar lamp issue, he said he purchased them from the Ministry of Energy with the intention that they would be of benefit to the constituents, and further stated that for him not contributing on the floor of Parliament did not mean that he was not serving his constituents.
According to him, he serves on Committees in Parliament which also address the concerns of all constituents nationwide, and also attends Assembly meetings at the Constituency level.
