A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, has revealed that all is not well with the main opposition party.

According to him, the party has serious challenges that cannot be glossed over as it moves into the 2016 elections.

“We cannot pretend that everything is OK within the party,” he told state-owned Daily Graphic in an interview.

Dr. Apraku is among six other individuals including two-time flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo, competing to become flagbearer of the NPP in the 2016 polls.

The others are, former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen; former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, MPs Kofi Osei Ameyaw and Francis Addai Nimoh and second Deputy Speaker and MP for Essikado-Ketan, Mr Joe Ghartey.

The former minister of state believes the Danquah-Busia tradition must undertake a “massive” education campaign and reforms to get their polling agents adequately prepared before the elections.

“If the polling agents get the sense that they are stakeholders in the party, they will work accordingly.

"This sense of responsibility must be inculcated in them; it will not come by chance,” he stated.

Seven hundred and eighty-six delegates of the party will on Sunday August 31, vote to whittle down the number of flagbearer aspirants from seven to five.
