A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffour, has served notice that the two key officers who were directed to proceed on leave at the party’s headquarters will be reinstated, despite opposition from the party leadership.

The Director of Finance and Administration of the NPP, Opare Hammond, and the acting Director of Communications, Perry Okudzeto, have been forced to go on sabbatical by the new leadership of the party.

The Legal and Constitutional Committee of the main opposition party has described the directive as “improper” and a violation of the party’s constitution.

The Mike Ocquaye-led body has called for the reinstatement of the duo, but the party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong said they will stick to their guns.

Dr Amoako-Tuffour is also insisting that the legal committee did no wrong in calling for their restoration.

“Whatever way you look at it whether now or later the action of the Legal Committee is in order,” the former Executive Chairman of the Ghana School Feeding Program told Accra-based Citi FM.

He added: “Kwabena Agyepong can’t say that and get away with it. What Ocquaye did is ok. The NEC appointed them [Hammond and Okudzeto], and it is NEC that can sack them. Kwabena Agyepong and [Paul] Afoko don’t have the right to take that kind of decision.”

Meanwhile, Hammond has threatened to sue the leadership of the party if he is not cleared of the alleged financial malfeasance against him.
