Just over a week after the election of Nana Addo-Dankwah Akufo-Addo as the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling NDC is beginning to feel the heat and showing signs of cold of the 2016 election, as some of its members are trying to push hard the “Alan/Akufo-Addo” faction agenda with the intent of disintegrating the rank and file of the NPP.
To ensure that this feat is achieved, the NDC is also shifting the post by describing the Nana/Bawumia leadership as a losing team because the duo had been defeated on two consecutive occasions by the NDC.
But some political pundits have described the NDC’s assertion as a sign of fear.
Already, majority of Ghanaians have accused the NDC of not only failing to solve the country’s economic woes, but compounding the problems facing the people.
The Agona West Constituency 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Isaac Aggrey, who was responding to the assertion by the NDC, described it is a sign of desperation and fear, considering the leadership qualities that Nana Addo-Dankwah Akufo-Addo possesses.
According to him, with his background as an astute lawyer and politician, Nana Akufo-Addo stands far taller than President Mahama in terms of leadership qualities and experience, and as such, the NDC is desperate to do everything possible to run the NPP down so as to win the sympathy of the electorates.
He attributed the harsh economic situation in the country to bad policies implemented by the Mahama administration, saying, with the experience of Nana Addo, he would put pragmatic policies in place to ensure that the average Ghanaian is relieved of their condition when voted into power.
He condemned the NDC for failing to rehabilitate the road linking Agona Nyakrom to Gomoa Afransi, which is in a deplorable state though the party used its rehabilitation as a campaign message during the 2012 elections.
According to Mr Aggrey, the bad nature of the road is seriously affecting activities of the people in the two towns who are predominantly farmers, as they find it difficult to transport their products to the market for sale.
He revealed that these and other challenges are the reasons majority of Ghanaian electorates, especially those at the grassroots, are hailing Nana Addo’s re-election.
