The Eastern Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Anthony Gyampo, who is aspiring to become National Vice Chairman of the Party has described the General Secretary of the NDC party Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nkatia as an invincible candidate in the NDC.

According to him, it would be a political madness and suicidal for any member of the party to even hatch the notion of contesting Mr. Asiedu Nkatia affectionately known in political cycles as General Mosquito.

He further said, the former has distinguished himself and held the position with diligent, maturity and loyalty ever since he assumed office as the national secretary of the party; hence it would be a none starter for anybody to think of contesting him since that person would not win.

The two times District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akuapem North made the disclosure during an interview with him about his intention to contest the national vice chairmanship.

The NDC regional secretary hinted that, the vice chairmanship position is a key position that requires individuals with experience, loyalty and immense knowledge about the party’s structures and this motivated him to move from the region to national position.

“I believe for anyone to contest for any national position the person has to be experienced in party affairs, dedicated service to the party, immense information about party tradition, history and structure ”, he stated.

According to him, he initially decided not to contest for any position after his tenure of office following some happenings in the party but had a change of mind after careful reflection about the advancement of the party.

Even though he admitted that, his contenders are equally capable of the position; he has all the highlighted qualities which place him above all other contenders in the race and called on the delegates to give him the chance.

According to him, he considered contesting the national position because the position called for individuals with immense experienced, matured and know the ideology and philosophy of the party.

He continued that, he was the longest serving DCE during Rawlings’s regime in the Eastern region from 1993 – 2001, former Acting Managing Director (MD) for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for a period of ten (10) months.

Counting on his qualities, he stated that he has been the Eastern regional secretary for the past 14 years and through is cordial and effective relationship with other regional executives and party members, the party’s vote in the region has appreciated in recent elections.

To him, he is least surprise about the way people are scrambling to contest for various positions in the party because the party is now attractive not because in power but the hard work and dedicated service by its leadership to package and market it.

On the campaign, the national vice chairmanship aspirant cautioned candidates and supporters to conduct their campaigns in an atmosphere unpolluted with insults, blackmailing and other tendencies that would put the party apart than bringing unity and peace.

He further said the party is like a big family, it is therefore imperative for members of the family to protect the image of the family since anything that would affect any member of the family would have a severe ramification on the larger family.

To the delegates, Mr. Gyampo charged them to vote for individuals who are seeking for the positions to work for the total advancement of the party and not people who want the position because of their parochial interest.

He explained that, assuming the position of the regional secretary for 14 years, two consecutive times parliamentary candidate for Akropong Constituency but lost narrowly in all the two to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lecturer at Akropong Presbyterian college of education among others have boosted his rich experience and knowledge to lead the party at a higher level.
