On December 11, 2014, the Kumasi High Court will start hearing a case in which Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, a younger brother of President Mahama, has sued the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, for defamation.

Mr. Antwi-Bosiako, also known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’, is alleged to have accused Mr. Mahama, a businessman, of being a thief; a claim which is untrue according to Mr. Akwasi Nti Asamoah, the NPP Chairman for Fomena.

Mr. Ibrahim is suing Wontumi for GHC 2 million. He explained that he is doing this to deter people from insulting others on radio.

But Mr. Akwasi Nti Asamoah rubbed salt into the wounds of Ibrahim by reminding him that should all businessmen and politicians take every comment at heart and sue their counterparts defamation, he (Ibrahim) would have been jailed long ago for certain derogatory remarks he has made.

According to him even on the very day the court adjourned the case to December 11, the president’s brother was heard on Hello FM insinuating he was taking on Chairman Wontumi because he speaks “foolishly” on political platforms. The above remark, in Mr. Akwasi Nti Asamoah’s view, was a clear case of defamation.

The NPP Chairman for Fomena, further claimed that although his regional chairman is not perturbed about any possible outcome from the court, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama should prepare to face more of Wontumi's fire.
